OPITO OIM Controlling Emergencies OIM (7025)
To provide a number of Emergency Situations where personnel must demonstrate their competence and ability to meet the nationally approved OPTIO standards for Installation Managers and their nominated deputies in Controlling Emergencies. This unit of Competence is concerned principally with emergencies involving large numbers of people and which by their very nature are threats to Life, the Installation or the Environment.
In order to be deemed competent to the OPITO Standard Delegates must demonstrate within a series of scenarios the following elements.
- Maintain a State of Readiness (Element 1.1) Completed in the workplace
- Assess Situation and Take Effective Action (Element 1.2)
- Maintain Communications (Element 1.3)
- Delegate Authority to Act (Element 1.4)
- Manage Individual and Team Performance (Element 1.5)
- Deal with Stress in Self & Others (Element 1.6).
Classroom and dynamic Control Room simulation.
Prior to assessment we would require previous evidence of prior training in Management of Major Emergencies, and gained exposure to command and control as a Deputy or second person in charge, or acted in the capacity of Installation Manager. Delegates may not be deemed fully competent, nor be registered with OPITO, unless they have satisfied the assessor that they meet the requirements of element 1.1 of the standard, which requires completion PRIOR to the assessment. Evidence to support the participant’s compliance with Element 1.1 is the responsibility of the Duty Holder.
